One of actor Stephen Collins’ alleged victims was a preteen babysitter who watched the actor’s daughter during summer trips to New York in the mid-90s, his wife claimed in an explosive email reviewed by the Daily News.
In a disturbing twist, Collins starred in a made-for-TV movie called “The Babysitter’s Seduction” with actress Keri Russell in 1996 — playing the part of a wealthy dad preying on his kids’ nanny.
The explosive July 2012 email was sent by wife Faye Grant to the woman who triggered the NYPD’s child molestation investigation of the “7th Heaven” actor, a source privy to the probe told The News.
Collins, who famously played the virtuous dad Eric Camden opposite on-screen daughter Jessica Biel, allegedly confessed to predatory behavior with three young girls in a recording obtained by TMZ.com.
He has not been charged in the case.
Collins’ lawyer claims Grant, 57, tried to use the recording in an attempt to get more money in the couple’s divorce.
The woman who received Grant’s email is a relative of Collins’ first wife Marjorie Weinman, the source said.
The woman claims Collins once tried to put her hand on his penis when she was 14 years old and visiting Weinman in the couple’s Greenwich Village apartment, sources said.
She sent an anonymous letter to Grant in 2000 and contacted police in Los Angeles and New York in 2012, the source close to the investigation said.
Grant sent her email shortly before the woman sat down with two NYPD detectives to tell her story, even though the statute of limitations had run out, sources said.
“Stephen lied when confronted 12 years ago. He said he had a hole in his holey jeans, as was the style then, and that you ‘must have’ seen his genitalia one time,” Grant said in her email.
Grant said she “required” Collins to attend Sexaholics Anonymous and go for “intensive” marriage counseling at their church.
“I do not think he has allowed himself, or perhaps he is not capable of experiencing the pain he has caused children,” she wrote.
Grant denied Wednesday that she is seeking more than her fair share of the couple’s estate - valued at more than $12 million.
“This is a deeply sad situation for everyone involved. With regard to the divorce proceedings, I am seeking no more than that to which I am legally entitled under the laws of the State of California,” she said in a statement .
“The recording of Mr. Collins’ statements has not been part of family court proceedings or any negotiations related to that action at any time,” she said.
“Faye requested that Mr. Collins create a trust fund for their daughter, and further requested that he make a contribution to a charitable organization benefiting sexually abused children. To falsely characterize these requests as extortion threats is reckless and constitutes yet further abuse,” her lawyer Larry Ginsberg said Wednesday.
