Former "Saturday Night Live" actress Jan Hooks died on Thursday at the age of 57, and the show took some time out of host Bill Hader's opening monologue for an emotional tribute to the late actress and comedian.
"SNL" played a clip of Hooks with her former scene partner Phil Hartman in their 1987 "Love is a Dream" short film, showcasing a musical number. It showed both Hooks and the late Hartman in a more serious role.
Former "SNL" cast member and Hader's "Skeleton Twins" co-star Kristen Wiig helped Hader introduced the clip, commenting that ""She was one of the best there ever was, and her influence is clear in every one of us who has been here since."
Hooks was in the "SNL" main cast from 1986 to 91, working alongside such alums as Dennis Miller, Mike Myers and Dana Carvey. She died after battling a serious illness.
"SNL's" next new episode will come on Oct. 25, with Jim Carrey hosting and Iggy Azalea as musical guest.
