Angelina Jolie made honorary dame by Queen Elizabeth - San Jose Mercury News

Queen Elizabeth II made Angelina Jolie an honorary dame during a private audience Friday, recognizing her for her campaigning against sexual violence.

I wonder if a Buckingham Palace coffee mug comes with that?

The 39-year-old actress was presented with the Insignia of an Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George at a reception at Buckingham Palace, according to The Daily Mail.

Jolie was accompanied by husband Brad Pitt and the couple's six children. Everyone got to meet the queen, though they didn't get official pictures taken with her.

I suppose it would be undignified to try getting a quick selfie.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said, "The audience itself between Miss Jolie and the Queen was private. Her Majesty presented her with the insignia in its box. Mr. Pitt and the rest of the family were introduced to the Queen afterwards, however."

The Mail reports it's unusual for a non-British citizen to receive such an honor. Irishman Bob Geldof got an award after organizing Live Aid.

Because of her being American and all, Jolie may not be addressed as Dame, though she can use the initials DCMG after her name. She received the award for working to stamp out rape in war zones.
