Shia LaBeouf said police made him wear a Hannibal Lecter mask after arresting him for alleged disorderly conduct in June at a Broadway performance of "Cabaret."
It would be a much better story if it was a production of "Silence of the Lambs."
LaBeouf appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," which airs on Friday. He said he was put in restraints after spitting on a police officer while being arrested. Police were called after the 28-year-old actor started smoking in the theater, yelling at the actors on stage and cursing at security guards as they led him out.
According to the New York Daily News, LaBeouf said he spent about 24 hours in jail. He said it wasn't the first time he was arrested, but was the, "worst time ... and quite scary."
"They put a 'Hannibal' mask on me and a lead jacket," he said. "It was really rough."
When DeGeneres asked why they put the mask and jacket on him, LaBeouf said, "Yeah, I spit on a cop. That's a no, no. I'm sorry if you're watching, dude. I'm sorry. That was crazy, man."
That's one way of putting it.
LaBeouf pleaded guilty last month to disorderly conduct and says if he completes at least three months of alcohol treatment and stays out of trouble for six months, the plea can be withdrawn and his case will be dismissed.
LaBeouf credited his mom, who raised him as a single parent, for helping straighten him out, telling him "stop (expletive) around."
The arrest culminated a string of incidents involving odd behavior by the "Fury" actor, who said he was going through "an existential crisis" and made "some judgment errors."
