Angelina Jolie may be Hollywood royalty, but to Queen Elizabeth she’s a dame.

And in Britain, that is high praise.

The Oscar-winning actress was rewarded by Her Majesty on Friday for her ongoing campaign against rape in war zones with the title of Honorary Dame Grand Cross, which is the female equivalent of a knighthood.

During a private audience with the queen at Buckingham Palace, Jolie was presented with the insignia of her new title — and got to shake her majesty’s hand.

New husband Brad Pitt and their six kids also got to meet the queen.

It was also a royal “thank you” for Jolie’s work to aid British foreign policy.

But because she’s an American, not a Brit, Jolie cannot be addressed as Dame Angelina Jolie, although she can — if she wants — refer to herself as Angelina Jolie DCMG.

Jolie was clearly delighted by the honor. She sported a tailored lilac skirt and matching jacket, tiny pearl earrings and a big smile when she met the queen.

This did not come as a surprise. Jolie was told in June that she would be getting the award while she was co-chairing the End Sexual Violence in Conflict global summit in London.

“To receive an honor related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to,” she said at the time.

Best known for blasting bad guys as Lara Croft in the “Tomb Raide” series and for winning an Oscar playing a mental patient in “Girl, Interrupted,” the 39-year-old actress has in recent years won praise for her work on behalf of refugees and victims of sexual violence.

Jolie is not the first Tinseltown temptress to be declared a dame.

Back in 2000, Elizabeth Taylor was declared a dame in recognition for her six-decade film career. But because she was British-born, she was Dame Elizabeth Taylor.
