Reading Rainbow is making a comeback! LeVar Burton, Star Trek actor and host of the PBS show from 1983-2006, launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $1 million to revive the series and the response has been overwhelming.
Burton, 57, wants to bring back the show as a web series and a classroom tool, and it looks like he'll do just that. The Kickstarter raised well over their goal in just a day, with donations at $1.6 million by Thursday morning. The Kickstarter still has 34 days to go.

"Ever since the show went off the air in 2009, I've heard from so many people on Twitter, Facebook, and people that I meet on the street every day, that quality, trusted educational content is fairly scarce in the current media landscape -- that Reading Rainbow needs to come back for today's kids," the actors says in the campaign video. "But what does that mean? Thirty minutes on TV was yesterday's world. In today's world, today's kids want today's technology."
"Let's do this, y'all," he encourages. "Reading Rainbow is back, for every child, everywhere...but you don't have to take my word for it."
