One of the biggest releases this year, 'Godzilla' reboots the popular Japanese franchise and narrates the story in a contemporary set-up.
The film re-tells the origin of Godzilla in modern times as a "terrifying force of nature" in a style similar to the Toho series of the franchise.
The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston in the leading roles.
The film is a co-production between Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures. According to a report by 'Variety', the film has an estimated $160 million budget; to be financed 75 per cent by Legendary and 25 per cent by Warner Bros.
In a January 2014 interview in Total Film magazine, it was revealed that Godzilla will be 350 feet tall -- the tallest incarnation of Godzilla to date.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, this version of 'Godzilla' contemplates the impact that modern science has on the environment.
"The way I tried to view it was to imagine Godzilla was a real creature and someone from Toho saw him in the 1950s and ran back to the studio to make a movie about the creature and was trying their best to remember it and draw it. And in our film you get to see him for real," Edwards had said in an earlier interview.
Interestingly, the Godzilla "roar" was revamped for this movie. Toho provided the original recording and sound designer Erik Aadahl then utilised the original roar and improved on it, according to director Edwards. A sound clip of the roar was released by Warner Bros. on SoundCloud.
Visual effects on the film were supervised by visual effects supervisor Jim Rygiel, best known for his work on 'The Lord of the Rings' movie trilogy.
Film composer Alexandre Desplat was hired to compose an original soundtrack for 'Godzilla'. He has earlier worked on movies such as 'The King's Speech', 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button', and the final two Harry Potter films.
