Will Mayor Ed Lee and San Francisco strike out, or head to first base? It now appears to be up to "Star Wars" creator George Lucas. The conventional wisdom seems to lean toward a win for the City by the Bay, and a trip back to the dugout by the Windy City, but Lucas isn't tipping his hand.

Now that Mayors Ed Lee and Rahm Emanual have offered up what they consider the best sites San Francisco and Chicago have to offer once-spurned "Star Wars" creator George Lucas for his proposed $700 million cultural arts and movie memorabilia museum, it's up to "George," as Lee calls him, to decide which offer strikes out.

"We won't speculate on potential sites or their specifics," Lucas spokesman David Perry said in a text message late Thursday, the day Lee offered Seawall Lot 330 to contend with Chicago's lakeshore parking lot near Soldier Field.

"The Museum team is analyzing all the options now presented," Perry said, noting that Lucas — whose initial plan to build in San Francisco's historic Presidio was nixed back in February by the Presidio Trust, setting off the two-city showdown — has "deep appreciation" for what the mayors' and other museum supporters' efforts.

Lee and Emanuel have taken their best swings at the plate. Which one will advance to first base? Which will strike out?

Only Lucas and his team have an inkling at this point, and as Perry points out, they ain't talking.
